Day by day

1. Day 1 — Arrival and transfer to Yogyakarta

   Arrive at Yogyakarta International Airport. Clear immigration and baggage, meet our representative and transfer to your hotel in Yogyakarta. The Javanese court city — a living sultanate, batik workshops, and the two greatest temples in South East Asia on its doorstep. The rest of the day is free to settle in. Overnight in Yogyakarta.

2. Day 2 — Yogyakarta: Borobudur Buddhist temple at sunrise

   Breakfast at the hotel. A full day in Yogyakarta — the Borobudur Buddhist temple at sunrise; the Prambanan Hindu temple complex at sunset; and the Kraton sultan palace and the Taman Sari water castle. The evening is free for dinner and a walk on your own. Overnight in Yogyakarta.

3. Day 3 — Yogyakarta to Mount Bromo

   Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Leave for Mount Bromo — the overnight train to Probolinggo, or a 330 km drive east. A smoking cone in a sea of volcanic sand, with a sunrise viewpoint that is worth the 3 a.m. jeep. Check in on arrival and, as the day allows, the Penanjakan sunrise viewpoint by jeep. 4. Day 4 — Mount Bromo: Crossing of the Sea of Sand and the crater rim stairs

   Breakfast at the hotel. A full day in Mount Bromo — the crossing of the Sea of Sand and the crater rim stairs; the Madakaripura waterfall; and the Penanjakan sunrise viewpoint by jeep. The evening is free for dinner and a walk on your own. Overnight in Mount Bromo.

5. Day 5 — Mount Bromo to Ubud

   Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Leave for Ubud — a drive to Surabaya, a fifty-minute flight and a transfer inland. The cultural heart of Bali in the foothills — rice terraces, a palace, a monkey forest and a gallery or a gamelan on every lane. Check in on arrival and, as the day allows, the Tegallalang rice terraces and a swing over the valley. Overnight in Ubud.

6. Day 6 — Ubud: Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary and the Ubud Palace

   Breakfast at the hotel. A full day in Ubud — the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary and the Ubud Palace; the Tirta Empul holy water temple and Goa Gajah; and the Campuhan ridge walk at first light. The evening is free for dinner and a walk on your own. Overnight in Ubud.

7. Day 7 — Ubud: Balinese cooking class and the Ubud art market

   Breakfast at the hotel. A full day in Ubud — a Balinese cooking class and the Ubud art market; the Tegenungan waterfall and a coffee plantation tasting; and the Neka Art Museum and an evening Legong dance. The evening is free for dinner and a walk on your own. Overnight in Ubud.

8. Day 8 — Ubud — departure

   Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Time for any last shopping before your transfer to Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar for the onward flight. The tour ends here, and we hope it is not your last visit to Indonesia.
