Day by day

1. Day 1 — Arrival and transfer to Ubud

   Arrive at Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar. Clear immigration and baggage, meet our representative and transfer to your hotel in Ubud. The cultural heart of Bali in the foothills — rice terraces, a palace, a monkey forest and a gallery or a gamelan on every lane. The rest of the day is free to settle in. Overnight in Ubud.

2. Day 2 — Ubud: Tegallalang rice terraces and a swing over the valley

   Breakfast at the hotel. A full day in Ubud — the Tegallalang rice terraces and a swing over the valley; the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary and the Ubud Palace; and the Tirta Empul holy water temple and Goa Gajah. The evening is free for dinner and a walk on your own. Overnight in Ubud.

3. Day 3 — Ubud: Campuhan ridge walk at first light

   Breakfast at the hotel. A full day in Ubud — the Campuhan ridge walk at first light; a Balinese cooking class and the Ubud art market; and the Tegenungan waterfall and a coffee plantation tasting. The evening is free for dinner and a walk on your own. Overnight in Ubud.

4. Day 4 — Ubud to Nusa Penida

   Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Leave for Nusa Penida — a transfer to Sanur and a forty-minute fast boat. A limestone island off the south-east coast — cliff viewpoints, manta rays and roads that are still an adventure. Check in on arrival and, as the day allows, the Kelingking Beach cliff viewpoint. Overnight in Nusa Penida.

5. Day 5 — Nusa Penida: Angel Billabong and Broken Beach

   Breakfast at the hotel. A full day in Nusa Penida — Angel Billabong and Broken Beach; snorkelling with manta rays at Manta Point; and the Diamond Beach and Atuh Beach staircases. The evening is free for dinner and a walk on your own. Overnight in Nusa Penida.

6. Day 6 — Nusa Penida to Sanur

   Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Leave for Sanur — a forty-minute fast boat. The sunrise side of Bali — a lagoon behind a reef, a five-kilometre beach path and the fast-boat jetty for the Nusa islands. Check in on arrival and, as the day allows, the Sanur beach path at sunrise and the Le Mayeur museum. Overnight in Sanur.

7. Day 7 — Sanur: Bali Orchid Garden and the Sindhu morning market

   Breakfast at the hotel. A full day in Sanur — the Bali Orchid Garden and the Sindhu morning market; a fast-boat day to Nusa Penida or Nusa Lembongan; and the Bajra Sandhi monument in nearby Denpasar. The evening is free for dinner and a walk on your own. Overnight in Sanur.

8. Day 8 — Sanur — departure

   Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Time for any last shopping before your transfer to Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar for the onward flight. The tour ends here, and we hope it is not your last visit to Indonesia.

• Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence, closes the island and the airport for 24 hours; nothing operates that day.
