Day by day

  1. Day 1 — Dehradun — Surkanda Devi — Dhanaulti / Kanatal

Begin the journey from Dehradun, where the driver and tour representative receive the private group at the agreed airport, railway station, hotel or city pickup point. After loading the luggage into the Innova Crysta, receive a short briefing regarding the route, cold-weather requirements, Nelong permit documents and mountain-travel conditions. Drive through the lower Garhwal hills towards Dhanaulti and Kanatal. The route gradually climbs from the Doon Valley into pine and deodar forest country. Depending on the confirmed routing and temple access, stop near Kaddukhal for the Surkanda Devi Temple visit. Proceed towards the temple by the available walking trail or optional ropeway when operational. The trek includes uphill sections and may take considerably longer for senior citizens or guests with limited mobility. Ropeway tickets, where available, are payable directly. Carry water, a light jacket and comfortable shoes, and avoid rushing on steep or wet sections. Surkanda Devi Temple is revered as an important Shakti shrine and offers wide mountain views in clear weather. Spend time for darshan and prayer before descending to the vehicle point. Continue to the selected boutique stay in Dhanaulti or Kanatal. Check in and enjoy a peaceful evening amid the forested surroundings. Subject to weather and property rules, a bonfire may be arranged. Dinner and overnight stay are provided at the property.

    Overnight: Dhanaulti / Kanatal

  2. Day 2 — Dhanaulti / Kanatal — Chamba — Uttarkashi — Harsil

After breakfast, check out and begin the journey deeper into the Garhwal Himalayas. Drive through the Chamba region and continue towards Uttarkashi, following changing mountain landscapes, terraced fields, forested slopes and river valleys. Take tea, lunch and comfort breaks at suitable points along the route. Lunch is payable directly. As the journey moves beyond Uttarkashi, follow the Bhagirathi River upstream through increasingly dramatic valleys and mountain settlements. Continue through the Gangotri valley towards Harsil, a peaceful Himalayan settlement known for traditional wooden houses, apple orchards, deodar forests and its location beside the Bhagirathi. The route may pass villages such as Gangnani, Bhatwari or Dharali depending on road conditions and the selected property. Arrive in Harsil by evening and check in at the curated riverside homestay or mountain property. Accommodation here may be simpler than city hotels, but it offers a more local and immersive experience. Mobile connectivity, heating and electricity may be limited. Enjoy a warm dinner featuring regional or Indian cuisine. The tour escort or local coordinator will reconfirm the permit status, document requirements and departure time for the next day's Nelong Valley excursion. Rest early and remain well hydrated.

    Overnight: Harsil

  3. Day 3 — Harsil — Nelong Valley Permit Excursion — Harsil

Wake up early for the Nelong Valley excursion. Carry the original government-issued identity document used for permit processing, permit copies, warm clothing, water, dry snacks, sunglasses and personal medicines. Access is not guaranteed and remains subject to government approval, nationality and document eligibility, security regulations, weather, road conditions and local administrative instructions. After breakfast, proceed from Harsil towards the designated check post and restricted valley route. Permit verification may take time, and the authorities may regulate vehicle movement, photography, group size, stopping points and the maximum area accessible to visitors. Enter the stark high-altitude landscape of Nelong Valley, known for its cold-desert terrain, rugged mountains and historic association with an old trans-Himalayan trade corridor. The scenery differs dramatically from Harsil's green deodar valley, with exposed rock, wide barren slopes and a frontier environment. Stops are made only at authorised locations and according to security instructions. Photography may be restricted in sensitive zones. Guests must not wander away from the vehicle, fly drones, photograph security installations or disregard the guide and authority instructions. Because of altitude and cold winds, walk slowly and report headache, nausea, dizziness or breathing difficulty immediately. The excursion may be shortened or cancelled if the operating team considers conditions unsafe. Return to Harsil by evening. Spend the remaining time resting beside the river or at the homestay. Enjoy dinner and a second overnight stay in Harsil.

    Overnight: Harsil

  4. Day 4 — Harsil — Gangotri Temple — Uttarkashi Route — Tehri

After an early breakfast, check out from the Harsil property and drive upstream towards Gangotri. The road follows the Bhagirathi River through mountain villages, forest sections and rocky gorges. Weather, snow and road restrictions may affect access, particularly outside the main pilgrimage season. On reaching Gangotri, proceed for darshan at the sacred Gangotri Temple when it is seasonally open. The temple is associated with the descent of the River Ganga and is one of Uttarakhand's Char Dham shrines. When the temple is closed for winter, the visit will be limited to accessible exterior areas and the riverfront, subject to local conditions. Spend time near the Bhagirathi ghats and explore the immediate temple settlement. Special pooja, priest services and personal ritual costs are payable directly. Maintain modest dress and respect local religious practices. After completing the visit, begin the long descent through Harsil and Uttarkashi towards Tehri. Tea, lunch and comfort halts will be taken according to the group's progress. Lunch is not included. Arrive near Tehri Lake by evening or night and check in at the selected boutique hotel or homestay. Dinner and overnight stay are arranged at Tehri. Because this is a long day, the exact arrival time cannot be guaranteed.

    Overnight: Tehri

  5. Day 5 — Tehri Lake Exploration & Leisure Day

After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed day around Tehri Lake. This slower day is designed to provide rest after the long high-altitude and mountain-road programme completed during the previous days. Spend time at an accessible lake viewpoint, take photography walks or simply sit by the water and enjoy the surrounding hills. The exact lake-access point depends on the selected accommodation, water level, local regulations and road access. Optional boating, water sports or adventure activities may be available at authorised activity zones. All such activities are payable directly and remain subject to weather, water conditions, age, health, operating permissions and safety regulations. Life jackets and operator instructions must be followed. Guests not participating in activities may enjoy a relaxed day at the property, explore nearby villages or take a short scenic drive according to available time. Any additional sightseeing outside the confirmed programme may involve extra vehicle charges. Return to the accommodation by evening. Subject to weather and property rules, enjoy a bonfire or quiet lakeside evening. Dinner and the second overnight stay are arranged in Tehri.

    Overnight: Tehri

  6. Day 6 — Tehri — Optional Rishikesh Stop — Dehradun Departure

After breakfast, check out from the Tehri accommodation and begin the return journey to Dehradun. Travel through the hill roads and descend towards the plains, enjoying final views of the Garhwal landscape. Subject to the group's onward train or flight timing, an optional stop may be made in Rishikesh for lunch, a short riverfront walk or a quick visit to an accessible ghat. Lunch and any local activity charges are payable directly. The stop will be skipped when traffic or departure timing makes it impractical. Continue to Dehradun and receive the final drop at the airport, railway station, hotel or agreed city location. Guests should maintain sufficient buffer time for onward connections because hill traffic, road work and weather may cause delays. The Ganga Gateway Himalayan Loop concludes with memories of Surkanda Devi, Harsil, Nelong Valley, Gangotri and Tehri Lake.
